Personalize Your Plate

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to nutrition. Fad diets and generalized nutrition recommendations don’t work for everyone, in fact, Fad diets usually don’t work for anyone long term. This year focus on personalized nutrition for the healthiest YOU!

Personalized nutrition is about making decisions for your body based on what your body needs. The basics remain the same, all bodies need water, carbohydrates, protein, fats, fruits, and vegetables but where you get these from and the amounts differ from person to person.

In addition, the foods we grew up eating are often influenced by our family’s history and culture. Our backgrounds and how we were raised affect our taste preferences and the foods we crave. If you grew up eating certain dishes on holidays, those memories will affect what foods you find comforting.

Personalized nutrition is also about listening to your body. Some days you may find yourself craving heartier dishes like stews or mashed potatoes. Other days your find that a salad or sandwich is enough. This is normal and is part of why our needs change day-to-day. Following a strict diet based on macros or calories does not take into account what your body is going through at that exact moment. Allowing yourself to eat what feels right helps your body remain healthy.
